The Truth About Cowboys by Andy Adams

Camp Wagon

One of the great chroniclers of the cowboy era was Andy Adams.  A cowboy himself for many of his years he took to writing in 1903 at age 43.  His favorite topics of course were cowboys, ranching and trail life in the American west.  His first and most popular book was his semi-fictional account of a large cattle drive from Texas to Montana called The Log of a Cowboy.  He wrote six other books as well as articles for several magazines.  The following article was one he wrote that appeared in the Hearst International Magazine of July 1904.
