Comic Book Factoids: Gold Mining

Gold mining (or mining for silver or other precious metals) was often the very first industry in many towns out west.  The infamous town of Tombstone was a boom town based on  silver mining.  It was the lifeblood of the town and when the mines flooded Tombstone almost went the way of many other ghost towns in southeastern Arizona.  Gold mining is always a good plot line in Western games.  Miners sometimes would hoard their nuggets and gold dust and then bury their treasure in various locations around their claim.  Depending on how productive their mining was the gold treasures could be worth several thousand dollars.  That’s enough to tempt many men in these rough towns to commit murder or larceny.  Below are some more one page factoids that I’ve recently found in old comic books from the 1950’s and 60’s.  The theme of these is gold mining.
